The grommet is a small metal eyelet set into the base of the back right patch pocket. It allows water that enters the pocket to drain out passively rather than pooling. The adhesive secure-close flap on the pocket keeps the opening sealed while you are in the water.
The drawstring is threaded through the waistband channel and not designed to be easily removed. Both the elastic and the drawstring work together to provide fit adjustment. The elastic alone still provides a comfortable fit if you leave the drawstring loose.
Polyester fabric darkens slightly when saturated but returns to its original color as it dries. The quick-dry construction means this change is visible only briefly after leaving the water.
