The alloy button provides a single-point waist closure rather than the distributed pull of a drawstring. The elasticized waistband provides baseline stretch. The button adjusts the waist at one point but does not offer the same graduated tightening range as a drawstring.
The 80% cotton / 20% elastane-spandex blend absorbs significantly more water than polyester swimwear and dries much more slowly. These are better suited as casual beach shorts for light water splashing rather than for sustained lap swimming or ocean swimming.
